Full Band 8AM Full Band begins this week.
In Class Students will demonstrate mastery on page 6, #1-4 as Test #1 (Play alone). Review page 6, #5-7 and play along in class. Try page 7, #8-10.

Instruments
5th grade students have 7 choices for the 2022-2023 school year.
Flute
a keyed woodwind instrument consisting of a cylindrical tube which is stopped at one end and which has a side hole over which air is blown to produce the tone and having a range from middle C upward for three octaves
Clarinet
a single-reed woodwind instrument having a cylindrical tube with a moderately flared bell and a usual range from D below middle C upward for 3¹/₂ octaves
Trumpet
a valved brass instrument having a cylindrical tube with two turns and a usual range from F sharp below middle C upward for 2¹/₂ octaves
French Horn
a circular valved brass instrument having a conical bore, a funnel-shaped mouthpiece, and a usual range from B below the bass staff upward for more than three octaves
Trombone
a brass instrument consisting of a long cylindrical metal tube with two turns and having a movable slide or valves for varying the tone and a usual range one octave lower than that of the trumpet
Euphonium
a brass instrument smaller than but resembling a tuba and having a range from B flat below the bass staff upward for three octaves
Percussion
a musical instrument (such as a drum, xylophone, or maraca) sounded by striking, shaking, or scraping
Flute
Flute students read treble clef and play with different finger combinations in both hands. Flute is the highest member of the woodwind family.
Clarinet
Clarinet students read treble clef and play a wide range of notes with different finger combinations in both hands.
Trumpet
Trumpet students read treble clef and play right-handed with 3 piston valves. In some ways, trumpet is similar to the French Horn. For example, the small mouthpiece helps students play the highest notes in the brass family.
French Horn
French Horn students read treble clef and play left-handed with 3 rotary valves. It has a small mouthpiece similar to the Trumpet. French Horn students have a wide range of notes.
Trombone
Trombone students read bass clef and play right-handed with 7 slide positions. It has a similar mouthpiece and the same range of notes as the Euphonium.
Euphonium
Euphonium students read bass clef and play right-handed with 3 piston valves. It has a similar mouthpiece and the same range of notes as the Trombone.
Percussion
Percussion students read treble clef and play the bell set / glockenspiel with two mallets and a practice pad for drums. Students have more success with a background in Piano because they are familiar with the keyboard layout and already read music.
Classes
See our schedule for classes and concerts. Students will need to bring supplies to school accordingly.
Class Goal Students will play achivement lines called "Go For Excellence" in our method book, then turn in completed worksheets to earn beads - like recorder karate.
Handouts
Students will find success when everything is organized in a 3-ring binder.
Worksheets
Students will complete worksheets to demonstrate mastery with new concepts, vocabulary, and rhythm counting.
Concert Songs
Students will receive Concert Songs in class.
Practice Tips
Students will learn how to practice with routines and strategies. Excellence is a habit. Talent is grown.
Note Charts
Students will use note charts to learn new notes.
Staff Paper
Students can write music/compose on staff paper.

Parents can place an order from District 47's preferred vendor, Quinlan and Fabish.

Method Book
5th grade students will read music from their own method book entitled, "Standard of Excellence, Book 1." Play Along.
Music Stand
Students will set up their own music stand in class. We use the Hamilton KB400N music stand and the Hamilton KB12 carrying bag.
3-Ring Binder
Please help our class run smoothly and organize our songs, worksheets and other handouts in a 3-ring binder.
Cleaning Supplies
Specific supplies are recommended for your instrument to keep it clean and in good working condition. See below.
